Our History

Lakeside Animal Hospital, Ltd celebrated its 70th anniversary on September 28th 2009. The hospital was founded by Dr. A.W. Lange. In an article in the Whitefish Bay Herald (which cost 5 cents in 1939) Lakeside was a front page story – “Animal Hospital in Whitefish Bay Cures Ills of Family Pets”.

“Air-conditioned throughout, the hospital is equipped with the most modern and sanitary equipment. Outdoor exercise yards are provided for patients that can ‘be about’. Private rooms, some of them sound proof so that unruly patients cannot disturb the rests of the peaceful ones, are provided. A special diet kitchen provides the proper food. A fluoroscope permits internal examination, an x-ray machine for treatments and pictures, and a complete pharmacy and a research laboratory are included in the building.”

Dr. Lange sold Lakeside Animal Hospital to Dr. George Lynch in 1952 and Dr. Robert Nelson joined as a partner in 1956. Drs. Lynch and Nelson owned the hospital until June of 1989 when they sold the practice to Drs. Wayne Hoppe and James Frank. Dr. William Rice became an owner in November 1992. In November of 2004, Dr. Hoppe retired leaving Dr. Frank and Dr. Rice as partners.

We are proud of our many years of quality small animal health care; proud of the compliments we receive from our clients and especially proud of the contributions we make to our clients lives while caring for their companions. Many of our original client’s children and grandchildren now make Lakeside Animal Hospital their veterinary hospital of choice.

The staff of Lakeside in 2011 is made up of six doctors, seven technicians, two kennel/maintenance staff, nine receptionists, and one hospital administrator.
